Julie Burton came to RISD to study illustration on a detour between a political science degree at Berkeley and a master's degree in law. She found her true passion in a glassblowing class, so when she later met jewelry artist and fellow glassworker Jess Panza at the Brooklyn cooperative Urban Glass, she jumped at the chance to focus her talents in a creative partnership. The two formed verre newyork, a jewelry studio distinguished by a unique mix of vivid color and simple, understated design. verre newyork jewelry is sold at stores across the country, including the American Folk Art Museum shop in New York and the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
